"Awesome" is a word often misused today, but the Cliffs of Moher are truly Awsome!

The Cliffs of Moher are one of Ireland's top Visitor attractions. The Cliffs are 214m high at the highest point and range for 8 kilometresalt over the Atlantic Ocean on the western seaboard of County Clare.

O'Brien's Tower stands proudly on a headland of the majestic Cliffs. From the Cliffs one can see the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South.

The Cliffs of Moher are home to one of the major colonies of cliff nesting seabirds in Ireland. The area was designated as a Refuge for Fauna in 1988 and as a Special Protection Area for Birds (SPA) under the EU Birds Directive in 1989. Included within the designated site are the cliffs, the cliff-top maritime grassland and heath, and a 200 metre zone of open water, directly in front of the cliffs to protect part of the birds' feeding area. The designation covers 200 hectares and highlights the area's importance for wildlife.

The cliffs rise 120 meters (394 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag's Head (Irish: Ceann na Cailleach), and reach their maximum height of 214 meters (702 ft) just north of O'Brien's Tower, eight kilometres away. The cliffs boast one of Ireland's most spectacular views. On a clear day the Aran Islands are visible in Galway Bay, as are the valleys and hills of Connemara.the north in Connemara, and Loop Head to the south.

Cliffs of MoherOverlooking the Atlantic, even on a calm day, white surf shows continually at the feet of Clare’s cliffs, the great ocean waves never cease pounding the shore. In stormy weather, the surf boils with fury, sending great plumes high up, even over the cliffs. Wonderful to see the forces of the unbridled ocean, this is a time to respect its power and keep to a safe distance back from the edge! 

You can take a ferry trip from Doolin that brings you right under the Cliffs of Moher and gives magnificent sea level views of the cliffs and "The Needle", home to thousands of different nesting seabirds.

Unchanged for millennia, the landscape of the Cliffs of Moher has, for centuries, welcomed visitors who come to marvel at their splendour and be at one with nature. This iconic location has close to one million visitors per year. 

Atlantic Edge is the exciting interpretive centre at the Cliffs of Moher New Visitor Experience. Housed at the centre of the underground building, a huge domed cave contains images, exhibits, displays and experiences that will delight young and old alike. Visitors enter via a viewing ramp which provides access for all to the central floor.

This is organised into four principal themed areas exploring different elements of the mighty Cliffs of Moher: ocean, rock, nature and man. A selection of interactive exhibits and displays show aspects of these themes and their connection with the cliffs. An aerial tour entitled The Clare Journey, is displayed on a central screen. The tour continues from the central dome via a winding tunnel that evokes the many caves of the area to a theatre housing a virtual reality cliff face adventure - The Ledge.
