The Michael Cusack Centre is located at the unspoiled village of Carron in the heart of the Burren at one of the highest points in the Burren Mountains and overlooks the largest Turlough (disappearing lake) in Western Europe. The center traces the life and times of the founder of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
Lisdoonvarna (Irish: Lios Dúin Bhearna, meaning "Enclosure at the Fort by the Gap") is a spa town of about one thousand people. It is believed that the fort referred to in this name is the green earthen fort of Lissateeaun (Fort of the Fairy Hill), which lies 3 km to the north-east of the town, near the remains of a Norman-era castle.
Kinvara is derived from the Gaelic "Cinn Mhara" which means "Head of the Sea" a name that gives an insight into its history. It has long associations with the sea and its past is recalled in the Annual Festival "Cruinniu na mBad" or "The Gathering of the Boats".
"I called Jim at Ireland West Tours looking specifically for a day touring around Galway to do photography. The minute I mentioned this to Jim, he started talking about light and times of day and I knew I was on to the right person! I trusted Jim with the places he recommended and he did not let me down!"
Jan M., Drogheda, Ireland
"Jim was very informative. I was driven to many out of the way places and the scenery was spectacular. I can highly recommend Jim's tour, his driving, his professionalism and the way he goes about understanding what it is you want to see and experience."
